Online Teaching Resource: FULL STEP BY STEP LESSON PLAN
STEP ONE:
To begin the lesson, students will watch a YouTube video named "9/11: How America's worst terror attack unfolded" by Sky News.
This video will give them an introductory overview of how the 9/11 events unfolded on that day which includes real recorded news reports and authentic footage from that day. By the end of the lesson, students will gain an understanding about what the attacks of September 11, 2001 were like.
*This video is 6:58 min long.

STEP TWO:
After the YouTube video concludes, students will break into small groups and discuss their thoughts about what they watched with each other.
To begin the discussion, I will provide them with 2 questions that they must answer together verbally in their groups:
1. Who was the president at the time? Where was he when he was first informed of the first two plane crashes?
2. What were the main emotions/reactions of the people in the footage on the streets where the crashes took place?
*Discussions within groups will take 5 minutes to complete.

STEP THREE:
After students conclude their discussion, they will then listen to first-hand account from survivor, Dianne DeFontes, who was on the 89th floor of the World Trade Center on 9/11 and listen to her personal experience of evacuating, and First Responder Robert Gray, who led his department's Technical Rescue team in its search for survivors and the recovery of victims at the Pentagon.
These are 9/11 Memorial's oral history interviews and students will hopefully be able to gain an understanding of September 11, 2001 by listening to two significant perspectives from this day.
*This part of the lesson should take about 10 minutes to complete.

STEP FOUR:
After the oral history recordings conclude, students will watch another YouTube video named "How 9/11 changed America and the world" by TRT World which is a channel that provides content on worldwide news and current affairs. This video provides insight on how the United States reacted as a country in terms of war (U.S. War on Terror) after the events of 9/11 occurred and how countries like Afghanistan and Iraq responded or how their people has been affected. The video also touches on national security implements in the United States after 9/11 in defense of future terrorism.
Students will hopefully gain an extensive understanding of the United States' response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and analyze the significant changes that were made domestically within the country and relationships with other countries.
After the video concludes, students will answer questions about this video with a worksheet that I will provide to them individually, and they must turn it in by the end of the class.
*This part of the lesson should take the rest of the class (around 40 minutes) to complete.
